Makenna, Mother's Day Special

In this section, empowered women from around the world show us how they work to achieve their dreams and what it means to be a woman in today’s society.

For Mother's Day we had the pleasure of meeting a very special person who spreads laughter and kind energy wherever she goes. This blonde beauty with sweet words is a mom above all else. Since a very special date is approaching, Makenna shared with us what motherhood means to her. During the interview Makenna couldn't help but get emotional and we did too, because in her words she radiates immense love for her baby, for the island, and for the people around her.

What’s your favorite part of being a mom?

Makenna: My favorite thing about being a mom is knowing that one day all the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears that I put into educating my son and making him a better man will pay off, breaking generational curses for both of us.

What is your favorite part of Hawaii?

Makenna: My favorite part of Hawaii is the healing aspect. When you allow the spaces in Hawaii to heal you, that’s the best thing. As a mom, I love that I get to show my son different parts of the world. That’s something that I couldn’t do when I was young. Hawaii has a different mentality. It’s very different from the microwave mentality back in the city where I was from. Here it’s very slow. We both are learning, without just going, and going, and going.

What is the biggest challenge when it comes to being a mom?

Makenna: The biggest challenge is knowing that it takes a village to raise a kid. However, that village doesn’t always follow you. So, I learned to ask for help. I would love to have someone to be there with me and my son.

How do you practice self-care?

Makenna: I have an extreme way of practicing self-care. I am either meditating and being alone, or I like to have fun and connect with my friends. I am extrovert, so I like spending with people.

What’s your favorite beach in Hawaii?

Makenna: I love Kokoloilo Beach Park because I have met so many people there who helped me in my spiritual journey. It helped me to become the person that I am now and who I meant to be. It seems like a place where like-minded people can come together in this place of gathering.

What’s your favorite jewelry from Island by Koa Nani?

Makenna: This larimar ring! – It’s my favorite piece of jewelry because when I wear larimar, it heals me and makes me feel more connected with my emotions.

It is true that certain places have a calming and healing energy. I was a single mom (for the most part) and it isn’t easy, but knowing there is help around makes it a bit easier.
I love the name of that ring “Wanderlust” as it fits my personality and zodiac sign to a T

Your jewelry makes the most precious Mother’s Day gifts 🌅
